Local Context and Problem: In Kyrgyzstan’s patriarchal society, parents rarely discuss menstruation with teenage girls, and some families even restrict access to information, depriving children of their right to education, as stated in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (articles 24, 28, 29). Many girls know little or nothing about menstruation when they first experience it. As a result, girls aged 11–13 face a culture of shame and silence, while teachers and women’s organizations are powerless against strict parental prohibitions. Solution: To break this silence and provide essential knowledge directly to girls, Kotex released the world’s first manga about menstruation. This story features strong female characters, dragons, and the magic of blood that saves humanity! This manga not only prepares girls for their first period but also inspires them to take pride in their bodies. The manga was published on Mangalib (https://mangalib.me/ru/manga/204254--krasnaya-sila-drakona) - a popular manga reading platform in CIS countries. Result: The Red Dragon’s Power gained 7,000,000 views and reached 900,000 unique users. The printed edition of the menstruation-themed manga made its way to the National Library’s shelves.
